Joshua David Sampson

Joshua David Sampson, 48 years old, of Athens, Georgia died on October 24, 2021. Born in Augusta, GA, he grew up in South Carolina. Survivors include his wife, Stacy; son, Henry; parents, Caroline and Harry Sampson; sister, Holley Sampson-Kring (Brent); in-laws, Craig and Jennifer Daniel; sisters-in-law, Laura Daniel, Alicia Howard (Max); Beth Jeremiah (Ken); and brother-in-law, Zach Daniel (Tiffany); beloved dogs, Roscoe and Lucy; and many nieces and nephews.

Josh graduated with his degree in English Education from UGA in 1998, teaching at Salem High School in Conyers, GA and at Cedar Shoals High School in Athens, GA. Whether it was a birthday, game night, or family beach trip, Josh enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. A man of many interests, a constant learner, and a voracious reader, Josh constantly gifted wisdom to everyone in his life. Josh embraced athletic pursuits as an adult: earning a black belt in taekwondo, running with enthusiasm, and learning the healing art of yoga. He ran many road races including 10ks, marathons, and the AthHalf. Although he often won trophies at these events, he held more joy in passing on his love of running to others.

Quick to lend a helping hand or quiet support to family and friends, Josh never expected accolades or recognition. He marveled people with his dry wit and creative problem-solving. Josh enjoyed music of all genres, constantly finding new artists which he eagerly shared. Passionate about education, Josh was a dedicated Cedar Shoals teacher and scheduler, chosen as Teacher of the Year in 2016. Josh’s legacy lives on through the lives he has touched. Joshua’s memorial service will be held on Friday, October 29 ^th , at 1:30 pm at Cedar Shoals High School Auditorium.
