Josette Felicie Staudt, 83, of Athens, died Saturday, November 14, 2015.
Born in Ougrée, Liège, Belgium, she was the daughter of the late Jean-Joseph and Renée Étienne Welsch. Josette and her family lived in Linsi (Hopei) North China from 1934-1946 while her father worked for a British engineering company. During this time, her family was part of a community taken prisoner by the Japanese during WWII. She enjoyed sharing many stories of her life during her time in China. Josette returned to Belgium in 1946. She was a member of the Belgian Air Force from November 1953 until September 1960 as a Radar Operator. On October 25, 1960, she came to the United State and worked at Otis AFB in Cape Cod, Massachusetts until 1964. She then came to Marietta, Georgia and worked at Dobbins AFB. For five years, she lived next door to the man who would eventually become her husband. Josette married the late Alexander Staudt on January 31, 1970. She worked at the Children's Clothing Department at Rich's for 14 years and then at Macy's for 17 years until retiring in April 2003. She enjoyed working in retail and shopping for children's clothes for her daughter, nieces and nephews, and especially, her grandchildren. Josette was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Marietta for over forty years. She loved to send cards to her family and friends for every occasion, no matter how big or small. She adored her four grandchildren, and loved to spoil them.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Jacques Welsch.
Survivors include her daughter, Noé�lle (Staudt) Broadnax and her husband Tommy; grandchildren, Cara, Peyton, Lauren and Asher Broadnax; niece, Patricia Staudt Wehner of Columbus, OH; nephew, Bill Staudt of Akron, OH; and cousin, Monique Ladot Cuvelier of Buxelles, Belgium.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 12 PM at Lord and Stephens, West with Rev. David Heller officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Conyers. The family will receive friends Friday, November 20, 2015 from 6 until 8 PM at the funeral home.
