Josephine Ann (Wheless) Poole

Josephine Ann Wheless Poole (Joann) passed away peacefully at her home in Sandy Cross on November 18th, 2015. She was 82.
Joann was born the eldest daughter to Robert Felton Wheless and Nina Gunter Wheless. She was the loving wife of Bernice Frank Poole (Shorty) for 40 years. Joann worked as a secretary in Atlanta before moving back to Oglethorpe County where she was a homemaker, bus driver, and Secretary at the Oglethorpe County High School until her retirement in 1990.
Joann was an active member of Lexington Baptist Church for more than 40 years where she loved working with the Awana program.
Joann was a friend to all and always carried a smile on her face as well as a joyous laugh. Preceding her in death besides her father and mother are a brother, James Wheless and a sister, Martha Jewel Wheless Vaughn. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Doris Wheless; a brother-in-law, Willie Vaughn; two children, Jody Jones (Dan) of Sandy Cross and Tim Poole (Liz Stromski) of Sandy Cross. Grandchildren include Braylee Poole, Tatiana Bighta, Riley Dutton, and Annsley Davis, and a number of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to St. Mary's Hospice staff, especially Jessica Brown and Faye Hopkins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 1PM at Lexington Baptist Church with Revs. Derek Paul and Jim Olds officiating. Burial will follow at Sandy Cross Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Friday, November 20, 2015 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Mary's Hospice.
