Joseph Edward Wages, 87, died Friday, February 3, 2012 at Morningside Assisted Living.
A native of Athens, he was the son of the late Joseph Massey and Chessley Brown Wages. Joe served his country during WWII in the US Navy as a submariner aboard the USS Sterlet. He was a member of Forest Heights Baptist Church, where he was a longtime Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. He was the founder and owner of Wages Welding and Machine Company. Joe was a man of quiet strength and dignity. He will be remembered as a gentleman in the truest since of the word.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Farrah Wages, sons and daughters in law: Jerry and Becky Wages of Watkinsville, Randy and Susan Wages of Albany, Tony and Lisa Wages of Snellville; seven grandchildren: Alex (Gina) Wages of Bogart, Alison (Bo) Silva of Athens, Kelley (Bill) Sparks of Savannah, Kristen (Jim) Fuller of Albany, Kathryn (Brent) Cox of Watkinsville, Janna Wages of Snellville, Julie Wages of Snellville and six great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, February 6, 2012 at 2PM at Lord & Stephens East Chapel with Pastor. Mike Purdy officiating. The family will receive friends from Noon until service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be; grandson: Alex Wages, Bobby Basham and nephews, Ronnie Hopkins, Edward Hopkins, Steve Hopkins, Jeff Hopkins. Honorary pallbearers will be Auburn Adams and the members of the Jack Moser Sunday School Class.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made in memory of Joe to Compassionate Care Hospice, 2340 Prince Ave., Athens, GA 30606.
