High Shoals - Joseph Mearon Queen Jr., 84, died on February 8, 2009, after an extended illness. He was born in Walton County, the son of Joseph Mearon and Mable Meadows Queen. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and attended the University of Georgia. He retired from BellSouth as a District Manager after 38 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Joan Tarpley Queen and a brother, Mearon Queen. Survivors include three children, Deborah Q. and Eddy Tiller of High Shoals, Joe Queen, III of Athens, Clark and Pamela Queen of Bogart; four sisters, Lillian Cross and Paula and Preston Breedlove of Monroe, Dorothy and Carl Smith of Atlanta, and Nelda and Don Wilbanks of Gainesville; three sisters-in-law, Dianne A. Queen of Monroe, Louise T. Malcolm, and Betty T. and Edward Kenimer of Watkinsville; four grandchildren, Jenny Queen Rainey, Cory Tiller, Joe Queen, IV, and Alexander Queen; one great-grandchild, Alexa Ryan Rainey; and extended family, grandchildren, MacKenzie and Marci Anthony; and caregivers, Carolyn and Anna Williams.
The family will receive friends Monday, February 9, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Lord & Stephens, WEST.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at Lord & Stephens, WEST.
Burial will follow at the Queen Cemetery in Good Hope, Ga.
