Joseph William McCarthy

February 13, 1938 — February 24, 2025

Joseph William McCarthy, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on February 24, 2025, at the age of 87. Joseph began his young adulthood by enlisting in the military under the branch of Navel Air. He served 11 years total for his nation including a tour in Vietnam War and then a few years serving the military as a civilian. He further continued a career in other areas such as teaching at Athens Technical School and then working and retiring from BBA as an Instrumentation Specialist. Outside of work, he continued to serve his community, neighbors, friends and family helping and building many things such as handicap ramps, screened in patios and decks just to name few. 

Joseph cherished his family and sitting back and listening to laughter filling the air as they spent time together, most notably, his numerous vacations to St. Augustine with his wife to celebrate anniversaries and birthdays. His family remembers him as a detailed thinker, designer and talented carpenter. At Mr. McCarthy’s request there will be no services at this time. 

Joseph is survived by his wife, Sandra L. McCarthy; his daughters, Georgia Phillips and husband Travis, and Molly Dunston and husband Glenn; his grandchildren, Kevin Phillips, Brandon Phillips, Alexis Dunston, and Brayden Dunston; as well as his three great-grandchildren.

Lord and Stephens Funeral Home WEST has been entrusted with arrangements.
