Joseph Baranko, cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022 just one day shy of his 91st birthday.
Born in Gary, Indiana, he was a son of the late Andrew Baranko and Elizabeth Duga Baranko. Mr. Baranko retired from the Clarke County School System where he worked as an Administrator of Music. He was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church having served as Choir Director. Mr. Baranko also volunteered with Catholic Charities and was a member of the Knights of Columbus as well as the Atlanta Balalaika Orchestra. He enjoyed fishing, sailing and most importantly, he thrived on time spent with his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Andrew Baranko Jr., Edward Baranko and Elizabeth Baranko.
Survivors include his wife of almost 67 years, JoAnne Wood Baranko; three children, David Baranko (Katrina), Nancy Baranko and Lisa Baker (Renato Melendez); three brothers, Frank Baranko (Carol), Rich Baranko (Elaine) and Peter Baranko (Rose); one grandson, Bert Baranko (Kristi) and one great-grandson, Bob Baranko.
A private burial was held in January. Memorial services will be June 11, 2022 at 11:00 am at the UGA Catholic Center, 1344 S. Lumpkin Street, Athens, GA 30605.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church’s Building Fund or St. Joseph’s Charities, 958 Epps Bridge Parkway, Athens, GA 30606.
