John "Johnny" Van Cleef Warner, Jr.

John “Johnny” Van Cleef Warner, Jr., husband of Kathy Jones Warner, died at his home in Athens, Georgia on June 9, 2020.

Johnny  was born in Savannah, Georgia, June 11, 1947 to June Mahaney and John Van Cleef Warner, Sr. He grew up on St. Simon’s Island, graduated from Glynn Academy in Brunswick in 1966 and attended Georgia Southern.

He began his career in sales at Sea Pac on St. Simon’s Island and worked at several companies in the U.S.   He retired from Tampa Maid Seafood as Southeast Sales Manager in 2006.

Johnny and Kathy had 34 years together and enjoyed traveling the U.S., boating and ocean cruising.  Johnny also liked to cook and go deep sea fishing.  They lived on Lake Sinclair in Baldwin County, then moved to Chickasaw Point on Lake Hartwell near Westminster, South Carolina.  In July 2019 they moved to Iris Place, an independent retirement living community in Athens.

Survivors besides his wife include a son John V. Warner, III; a step-daughter Tina Ridley and her husband Bill Marcie of Darien; a step-son Jim Ridley and partner Laura Redman of Jefferson; a brother Randy Warner and wife Karen of Punta Gorda, Florida; a niece Ellison Warner of Naples, Florida; an aunt Carol Haley of Eatonton; a cousin Duncan Williams and wife Jenna and their children Daniel and Hannah of Athens; and many friends.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to your favorite charity.

A graveside service will be held at a later date in Savannah.
