Bogart

John Allen Thomson, III of Bogart, Georgia, passed away on June 23, 2021 at the age of 67. He was born September 14, 1953 to John Allen Thomson, Jr. and Lorraine Solis Thomson.

Born in in Atlanta, Georgia, John was raised in the Catholic faith and was involved with Boy Scouts and Little League Baseball as a child.  He graduated from Briarwood High School in 1971. After finishing his freshman year at Georgia Military Academy, he took a summer job with Southern Bell and never returned to GMA. He joked that after making a real paycheck, he had no interest in returning to college. So, he continued his grandfather’s and father’s legacy of longtime employment with Southern Bell/BellSouth/AT&T for thirty-seven years in Atlanta, Georgia and Panama City Beach, Florida. He was also proud to serve as a Volunteer Firefighter for many years in Fulton County, Georgia and Bay County, Florida.

John was a loyal fan of Georgia Tech football and NASCAR. He loved classic movies of the 1930s through 1950s with a special interest in Noir films. He had a strong interest in war history with a love of WWII history and was incredibly knowledgeable about WWII aircraft.

He enjoyed feeding and watching his backyard feathered friends and was a lifetime member of the Audubon Society. He loved all animals and spoiled his dogs, Bobby and Bogey, with lots of love and too many treats.

John always looked forward to times spent with his family and loved them all very much. He also enjoyed the company of friends and a lot of laughs. They could always depend on his dry and sometimes bizarre sense of humor and crazy antics to keep things interesting. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather who never had an unkind word for anyone.

John Allen (as his family called him) is survived by his parents of Panama City Beach, Florida; his loving wife, Lauren Ann of Bogart, Georgia; daughter Kristiana “Kristy” Lea Parker of Acworth, Georgia; sister Carol Ann Morrell (Rene’) of Panama City Beach, Florida; brother Joseph Thomson (Nancy) of Alpharetta, Georgia; two grandsons, Hunter and Elijah; one granddaughter, Reagan; five nieces, one nephew and a lot of extended family.

Following cremation, his family will hold a ceremony to scatter his remains at a later date.

If you would like to honor John’s memory by making a donation to an organization, please consider two of his favorites:  Wounded Warrior Project and DAV (Disabled American Veterans).

Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, WEST, Watkinsville, GA, is in charge of arrangements. www.lordandstephens.com
