John Bortle Thomason

d. July 27, 2023

Memphis

John Bortle Thomason is a treasured gift from God. Defying the odds, he was born in the early morning of July 27 2023. For three precious hours John fought the good fight and soon finished his short race. After baptism and anointing, John opened his eyes a final time, gazing first at his loving mother, and then at his caring father...then closed his eyes and passed peacefully from the cradle of his parents' arms, carried by Angels, to the waiting arms of Jesus.

Surrounded by family in heaven who have gone before him, John watches over his family below - including his mother Dr Amanda Grace Bortle Thomason, his father Russell Sanders Thomason, and his big brother Russell Sanders Thomason II, all of Memphis TN - his maternal grandparents Tina & Wade Bortle III, his Aunt Jessica Bortle & Uncle Hunter Elliott, his Uncle Wade Bortle IV, all of Athens GA, and his Aunt Kadi Beth Bortle of Nashville TN - his paternal grandparents Deborah & Rocky Thomason, his Uncle Ryan Thomason, and his cousins Kaylin, Kyle and Karson Thomason, all of Lavonia GA - as well as Great Grandmothers, Great Aunts, Great Uncles, and many Cousins.
There will be no public visitation scheduled, but flowers, plants, and other gifts of sympathy will be accepted at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, Athens GA.

There will be no public service. A private Funeral Mass, led by Pastor Rev. Paul Moreau, will be held Thursday morning August 10 2023 at St Joseph Catholic Church in Athens. Private burial service will follow at Oconee Hill Cemetery in Athens.

Dr and Mr Thomason extend their heartfelt appreciation to all the professionals at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, as well as Memorial Park Funeral Home and Baptist Memorial Hospital for Woman, both of Memphis TN...for all the kind, gentle, and compassionate care extended to their blessed son.
The Thomason's also encourage family and friends, wishing to honor the memory of baby John, to seek out opportunities in daily life to bless a child. Though John may not be here to experience the plans for his childhood, there's no reason for other children to miss out as well. Share your abundance, bring joy to a child, and if you'd like to share our inspiration, let them know it was, "From John..."
