Athens - John Wess Roberts, 76, died Monday, January 08, 2007 at his residence.
Born in Oconee County he was the son of the late William E. and Bennie Scoggins Roberts. He retired from Wellington Puritan Mills after 27 years. He was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed hunting and gardening. He was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Ernest Roberts, Willie Mae Miller, William H. Roberts and Louise Daniel.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Betty Whatley Roberts; son and daughter in law, Kenneth and Rachel Roberts, of Commerce; sisters: Lois Hoyt, of Monroe, Berta Everett, of Monroe, Rosanell Edmonson, of Jackson Lake; brothers: Lanier Roberts, of Monroe, Odell Roberts, of Monroe, Jimmy Roberts, of Monroe; and one grandson and his wife: Joel and Mandy Roberts, of Winder.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 10, 2007 at 2PM at Oconee Chapel Funeral Directors with Rev. Buford Lockman officiating. Visitation will be held tonight from 6 to 8PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
