John Postnieks

February 28, 1943 — December 29, 2022

Watkinsville

John Postnieks, 79, of Watkinsville, died on Thursday, December 29, 2022.

Born in Riga, Latvia, John and his family spent two years in a displaced persons’ camp following World War II before emigrating to Pennsylvania when John was 4 years old. John became an American citizen at age 13 and served his country in the United States Air Force. John traveled the world working for Siemens as a service representative for over 40 years, fixing and troubleshooting machinery for various plants. He and his family moved to Watkinsville in 1986.

There wasn’t much John couldn’t fix, which he combined with being an extremely helpful person. He was known by everyone in his neighborhood, and when he could no longer physically fix things himself, he delighted in teaching others his skills. In his free time, he enjoyed working in his wood shop, riding his motorcycle, and was an extreme car enthusiast, loving car shows in person and on television. Most of all, he loved his family, and he will be deeply missed by them and his many friends.

Along with his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Postnieks.

John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nancy Heintz Postnieks; their son, Greg Postnieks (Angie); grandchildren Randy, Kristina, and Ryan; and brother, Andrew Postnieks.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 5 at Lord and Stephens, West Chapel at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Interment will follow the service at Evergreen Memorial Park.
