John Hazel (Yarbrough) Porterfield

John Hazel Porterfield died September 22, 2011.

She was born July 26, 1917, the daughter of the late J. G. Yarbrough and Nettie Hart Yarbrough, and lived in Hull, Madison County, Georgia, all of her life. Mrs. Porterfield was preceded in death by her parents, her late husband, Paul Porterfield, who died in 1994; and her siblings, Pauline Y. Thompson, Wilma Y. Simmons, Alfred Colquitt Yarbrough, Lounette Y. Brown, Joan Y. Melton , and Florence Y. Hix.

Mrs. Porterfield was a faithful member of Hull Baptist Church as long as she was able. She will best be remembered as a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother and the baker of delicious pecan pies which she graciously shared with the Hull Community.

She is survived by her only son, Larry P. Porterfield (Jean) of Hull; granddaughter, Sabrina Porterfield; great-grandchildren, Aaron Turner and Austin Turner; step-grandchildren, Natalie S. Camp (Tom) and Lance Strickland (Jenell); and her only living sibling, a sister, Lillian Y. Thomason (Lance) of Hull; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 24, 2011 at 11:00 AM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, EAST with interment in Athens Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Care of Commerce, 200 Bolton Road, Commerce, GA 30529.
