John Francis Poe

John Francis Poe (71), of Loganville, GA passed away from this life on December 8, 2023.

He was born in Marion, IN in 1952 to Richard H. Poe and Rosa Romaine (Smithson) Roby.  He is survived by his wife, Diane Marie Poe, of Loganville, daughter Shawn (Josh) Blackaby, Louisville, KY, sons Michael (Rudi) Hamm, Morehead City, NC and Daniel (Natasha) Valverde, Corpus Christi, TX, grandchildren William Blackaby and Remi Hamm, Mother Rosy Roby, Elwood IN, brothers Steven (Marcia) Poe, Greenwood, IN Gregory Poe, Elwood, IN, Jeff (Joyce) Poe, Elwood, IN, sister Beth (Mark) Melvin, Elwood, IN, sister-in-law Karen (Melvin) Hemby, brother-in-law Weston (Juliann) Taylor and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and close family friends.  He was preceded in death by his father Richard H. Poe, stepfather Roy M. Roby and brother Richard (Ritchie) Poe, Jr.

John attended Oak Hill High School in Converse, IN and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1970.  He attended Radio School in MD and obtained an associate degree from National University, San Diego, CA.  He served in Vietnam during the years of 1971-1973.  He retired from the Navy after over 30 years of service with the rank of Command Master Chief in July 2001.  He owned and drove a truck for Brushy Creek Transportation, Inc. and taught ROTC for several years before retirement.

A celebration of life ceremony will be held in St Simon’s Island in a few months.  In lieu of cards or flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and Tunnels to Towers.
