Bogart, GA - John Edward Patat, Sr., 89, a member of the "greatest generation", died February 16, 2014.
A native of Athens, he was the son of the late Samuel E. and Belle Williams Patat and was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Akins. He received his Bachelors of Education from the University of Georgia. Mr. Patat served with the U.S. Navy Atlantic Carrier Fleet during WW II and the U.S. Army Occupation Forces in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was longtime owner and retired from Patat Bookkeeping Service, a second generation Athens business, and he enjoyed playing golf in his spare time. He was a member of Athens First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret "Peggy" Patat; daughter, Eleanor Patat Cotton (Jay) of Athens and Eddie Patat (Pam) of Bishop; grandchildren, Kelli Thompson (Jake) of Statham, Laura Patat, Jennifer Cotton and Sara Cotton, all of Athens and great grandson, Emory Thompson.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, WEST. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jim Ebert, George Nunnally, Lee Whiteside, Jake Thompson, C.L. Morehead and Bob Burton.
