John (J.K.) McWhorter, 73, died on October 27, 2007, after a long illness. Born in Stephens, Georgia, he was the son of the late Johnnie Key and Ruth Haynes McWhorter.
John was retired from Southern Bell after 30 years. After his retirement, he sold real estate in Albany, Georgia, and was active in many civic organizations. An outstanding athlete in high school, he remained a sports enthusiast all his life and was an especially avid golfer. He was a self-taught wood craftsman and an expert bridge player. He was a loving and devoted husband and father.
John is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy Evans McWhorter, his son and daughter-in-law, John Key III and Keirstin McWhorter, and grandsons, Matthew and Jack, of Dallas, Georgia. He is survived also by his brother and sister-in-law, Hamp and Betty McWhorter of Greensboro, Georgia, and his sister and brother-in-law, Lily and Bobby McFarland, of Stephens, Georgia.
Services will be Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at 10:00 AM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Rev. Harry Warren officiating. Interment will be in Clark Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
