John Lindsey

February 10, 1929 — July 4, 2013

John Richard Lindsey, 84, passed away peacefully at his home on July 4, 2013. Richard was the
son of the late Johnnie Bailey and Nellie Smith Lindsey. He was a life long resident of Madison
County. Richard was preceeded in death by his sisters, Annie Lou Huff and Betty Coile, both of
Athens, GA. Richard is survived by Dorothy Covington Lindsey, his wife of 54 years. He also has a
son, Richard (Pamela) Lindsey and a daughter, Robbie Diane Lindsey. He had several grandchildren:
Meagan, Justin (Jessie), Ryan and Katelyn Lindsey, and as well as special family friends that will miss "Papa":
Denise Bixler, Taylor Perrault and Justin Caudell. The light of his life, was his young great-grandson,
Peyton Austin Lindsey. Two other sisters, Rosa Mae Harper of Athens, Georgia, Rachel Gooch
of Laurens, South Carolina and brother in law, Knox Coile of Winterville, Georgia survive his passing
along with extended family in both Georgia and South Carolina.
Richard was a member of Colbert Baptist Church, Shannon Lodge # 404, Danielsville
Eastern Star # 537. A life long mechanic, he retired from Ivy Truck Sales and the Athens-Clarke
County government.
The family will be receiving visitors on Saturday, July 6th, from 3-6 pm at the Lord & Stephens
Funeral Home in Danielsville. He will lie in state at Colbert Baptist Church beginning at 1pm
prior to his funeral service at 2 pm on Sunday, July 7, 2013. Interment will follow at the
Colbert Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Justin and Ryan Lindsey along with Taylor Perrault, James McAvoy,
Charles Burroughs and Dwayne Patton. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Shannon Lodge
# 404, the Betherean Sunday School Class as well as those in the Masonic Brotherhood.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Compassion Care Hospice for all their assist-
ance in this time. Donations can be made in Richard's honor to this organization.
