John Dean Kitchens, 93, of Winterville, went to his heavenly home on June 10, 2023. Born on May 3, 1930, in Hall County, Georgia, he was the son of the late Carl Asberry Kitchens, Sr and Dora Roark Kitchens. He moved to Athens at the age of nine, living there until moving to Oglethorpe County in 1992.
He was the youngest of 10 siblings and preceded in death by six brothers and three sisters.
After serving in the army during the Korean War, he returned from Berlin, Germany and married his love, Ann Elizabeth Hale in August of 1953. They were married for 69 years. John was a former member of Central Baptist Church and a member of East Athens Baptist Church where he had served as a Deacon.
Survivors include his wife, Ann Kitchens; two sons, Tim Kitchens, Travis Kitchens (Bette); two grandchildren, Jack Kitchens, Ava Kitchens; numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 2:00 pm at Evergreen Memorial Park with Rev. Randy Crowe and Chaplain Donald McKelvey officiating.
