John H. Holladay, age 83, of Winterville, died on July 20, 2017, following an extended illness. He was a member of the Christian faith. A native of Spotsylvania, Virginia, Mr. Holladay was the son of the late Farley Young Holladay, Sr., and Lucille Beasley Holladay. He is preceded in death by brothers Tavener, Thomas, and David Holladay.
Mr. Holladay was born on December 5, 1933. Following high school, he served in the United States Army. In 1956 he married Martha Wood Holladay, a marriage of 61 years. His career was with the federal government where he worked for Southern Piedmont Experiment Station and Richard B. Russell Research Center. After retirement, he farmed in the Winterville area and worked with Bright Coop Company of Nacagdoches, Texas, as a consultant, designing and developing live haul equipment for the poultry industry.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Wood Holladay; his son, Ted (Susan) Holladay of Winterville; grandsons Austin John Holladay of Winterville and Lyle Holladay of Corinth, Mississippi; sister Frances Pulliam of Fredericksburg, Virginia and brothers Benny (Ruth) Holladay of Bowling Green, Virginia, and Farley Young (Margaret Ann) Holladay, Jr., of Spotsylvania, Virginia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Saturday, July 22, 2017 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Funeral services will be Sunday, July 23, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, EAST with George Lee, Charles Vaughn and Philip Farris officiating. Burial will follow at the Winterville Cemetery. Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
