John Gearin

John Gearin, 91, died June 14, 2015.
Mr. Gearin was born in Cleveland, GA. He was a and resident in Oconee County for twenty years and Walton County the last 5 years. He was a son of the late Charles and Nellie Kansas Ashmore Gearin and was preceded in death by his wife, Bertie Mae Ewing Gearin.
Mr. Gearin was a sergeant of the United States Army with service during World War II. He was a member of East Athens Baptist Church for over 63 years where he was Deacon Emeritus and treasurer. He was also a longtime resident of Clarke County and business owner of Gearin Shoe Store for over 30 years. He was a past member of East Athens Civitan Club.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM at East Athens Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include three daughters, Polly (Craig) Hall of Kennesaw, Mary Elizabeth Byrum of Monroe, Janie (Steve) Stair of Gainesville; sister, Lena Poss of Athens; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to East Athens Baptist Church Building Fund.
