John Gordon Forster, 67, of Bogart, GA and formerly of Tallahassee, FL passed away peacefully into eternal life at his home on Wednesday, May 5, 2021. He married the love of his life, Brenda G. (nee Revell) Forster on July 15, 1978. Born on December 11, 1953 in Birmingham, AL, he was the son of the late Gloria Constance (nee Patterson) and Roy Harold Forster Jr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his Father and Mother-in-law, Harrell Wood and Millie Revell.
Gordon was a Godly man who lived a life we could all strive for. A devoted family man, he was loving, kind, selfless, strong and hardworking. In addition to playing his favorite sport of golf, he was an avid fan of college football and never missed watching an Auburn Tigers game. Gordon was never one to turn down a Krispy Kreme doughnut or some authentic southern BBQ.
After devoting his entire career to the field of forestry, he retired from Nutrien AG Solutions in 2020. He graduated from Banks High School in 1972, where he lettered in football. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry from Auburn University in 1976 and completed a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Florida State University in 1990.
He was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church and also frequently attended services at Mars Hill Baptist Church. In his lifetime, Gordon devoted himself to volunteering in his community and served on the Board of Directors at the Athens Pregnancy Center. He was also involved in ministry outreach to the elderly and homeless.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda; son, Troy (Lori) Forster; daughter, Summer (Zak) DeBruyne; grandchildren, Ryder, Cruz and Skyler DeBruyne; sister, Nancy (Duane) Scheffe; brothers, Garth (Suzanne) Forster and Joshua Forster.
A memorial service will be held on June 5, 2021 at 11 am at Mars Hill Baptist Church with pastors Rick Brittain and Garth Forster officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 am to 11 am before the service. There will also be a memorial service in Bristol, FL, on June 7, 2021 at 11 am at First Baptist Church of Bristol.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Athens Pregnancy Center or the Mars Hill First Baptist Church.
