Athens - John J. Evans, 69, husband of Marion Hefferle Evans, died Sunday, June 8, 2008 at Athens Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late John James and Helen Cecilia Evans. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, was a research chemist with Russell Research Center for 20 years and most recently was employed by the EPA as a research biochemist.
Survivors in addition to his wife include four children, John F. (Cathy) Evans of Hartwell, Lynn (Nick) Carter of Watkinsville, David M. (Amy) Evans of Lawrenceville, Kenneth R. Evans of Hurst, Texas; siblings, Kathi Evans, Thomas Evans, James Evans, Robert Evans; four grandchildren, Casey Carter, Danielle Carter, Reagan Evans and Abigail Evans.
A memorial mass will be celebrated 10am, Thursday, June 12, 2008 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 11, 2008 from 6 to 8pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church Building Fund.
