Colbert - John Thomas Epps, 63, died Saturday, August 12, 2006 at Grandview Care Center
Born in Athens, he was the son of John T. and Violet Guest Epps. John served as a merchant seaman on a tugboat for many years, hauling freight all along the Gulf of Mexico coast. For 17 years John sold boiled peanuts and meat skins on Baxter Street for every University of Georgia home football game. He was also owner of This and That Bait and Tackle and retired from Athens Exterminating after 11 years of service.
John loved World War II history and was extremely patriotic. He was an avid fisherman and fished all the waters in this area as well as South Carolina and the Gulf of Mexico.
Survivors include his life partner, Linda Grizzle, children; George Millard Epps of Athens, Holbert Dewitt Epps of Macon, John David Epps of Macon, Tammy Epps Greene of Panama City, FL, Sherry Murray of Athens, sister, Laura Epps of Athens, brother Jimmy Epps of Macon, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 3PM, Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Lord & Stephens East Chapel with the Rev. John Reeser officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services.
