John Alex Carroll, 74, of Bogart, passed away on December 5, 2010 after a long battle with various physical ailments. He was born in Athens, Georgia on December 8, 1935 and was an active member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church for thirty-five years.
John was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of fifty-four years, Penny, who suffered from
MS for over twenty years until her death on May 5, 2010. John was her primary caregiver and considered it his greatest blessing to tend to her.
John was proud to have served his country for twenty years, (Navy-16 years and Air Force-4 years). He served three tours in Korea and three tours in Vietnam. John played guitar, sang and wrote many moving patriotic and Christian songs.
John was also a devoted and loving father. He is survived by his sons, John Russell (wife, Susan) Carroll, William Kelly "Bill" (wife, Andrea) Carroll, and his daughter, Elizabeth Grace Carroll. He was preceded in death by his son, James Randall Carroll (wife, Kathy). He is survived by his grandchildren, James Adam Carroll (fiancé, Elizabeth Folas), Kimberly Smallwood (husband, Kevin), Contina Jordan, Isham William Carroll and Joseph Miller Carroll; great grandchild, Jameson Garrett Smallwood.
Funeral services will military honors will be Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Prince Avenue Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Ricketts officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Prince Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund.
