John Thomas Canane

John Thomas Canane, 92, died October 3, 2021.

A native of Worcester, Massachusetts, he was a son of the late John Lawrence and Agnes Irene Flynn Canane. John graduated from Boston College High School in 1947 and Boston College in 1951. He honorably served his county in the United States Navy during the Korean War as a navigator aboard the USS San Marcos (LSD 25). In 1967 he relocated to Walnut Creek, California to continue employment with Liberty Mutual Life Insurance Company, from which he retired after 34 years to spend time with family, traveling, and playing golf. In August of 2020 he and Marie moved to Athens, GA.

A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, October 22, 2021 at 2:30 PM at the University of Georgia Catholic Center.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Dillon Canane; children, Maureen (Jeff) Buhr, Sheila (Dale) Morseman and Paula Martori; grandchildren, Erin (Chris) Watt and Patrick Morseman; great grandchild, Luke Watt; and other extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boston College–Give Campus, in John’s memory or a charity of your choice.
