Athens - Joe S. Swann, 79, died May 20, 2005.
Born in Jackson County, he was the son of the late Charlie Voss and Corrie Freeman Swann and was preceded in death by a brother, Early Swann. Mr. Swann was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, having served with the 3rd infantry division. He was a member of Mt. Vernon Lodge #22 and VFW Post 2872. He was retired from Jacks Cookies. Mr. Swann was a member and deacon of Athens First Christian Church.
Funeral services will be Sunday, May 22, 2005 at 2 p.m. at Lord and Stephens Chapel, WEST with Rev. Ray Austin officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife, Mamie Huff Swann; son and daughter-in-law, David L. and Natasha Swann of Dacula; grandsons, David A. Swann, Holden L. Swann and German Yavorsky; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Alma Huff Noell and Thomas E. Noell.
Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church Hymnal Fund or the American Cancer Society.
