Joe L. Collier, 85, died Wednesday, July 21, 2010.
A native of Macon County, Joe was the son of the late Joe T. and Lorena Collier and was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Grace H. Collier. He attended the University of Georgia and was a retired agent for the Life Insurance Company of Georgia. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Montezuma, GA, was the Sunday School teacher of Mr. and Mrs. Class of First Christian Church in Athens for many years and was a charter member of Antioch Christian Church's Fun and Travel Club. Mr. Collier was a charter and past president of the Athens Historical Society and Chairman of the Civil War Centennial for Oconee County.
Survivors include his daughter, Elaine (Dick) Neal; son: Lewis T. (Sharon) Collier all of Watkinsville; son: Richard D. Collier of Lawrenceville; sister: Carolyn (David) Bowden of Griffin; sister in law: Mary Beth Josey of Byromville; two grandchildren: Justin (Elena) Collier, MD, Laura Collier (Matthew) Tyler and a great granddaughter, Lydia Michelle Collier.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 24, 2010 at 2PM at Antioch Christian Church with Rev. Jeff Wilkes officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Antioch Christian Church P.O.1273 Watkinsville,Ga. 30677
The family will receive friends Friday, July 23, 2010 from 6 until 8 at Lord & Stephens West Chapel.
