Lexington - Joe Lewis Appling, 76, husband of Robbie Appling, died July 24, 2007.
Funeral services will be held 3PM, Saturday, August 4, 2007 at Lord & Stephens East Chapel.
A native of Oglethorpe County, he was the son of the late Willie Reese and Ruth Andrews Appling. Mr. Appling was also preceded in death by his sons, Jeff and Barry Echols. He served his country in the US Navy during the Korean conflict and retired from the Georgia Department of Transportation. He was a member of Lexington Baptist Church.
Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, Kevin Appling of Athens; sisters: Mary Thaxton, Faye Hill, Jeanette Bridges all of Lexington; brothers: Bill Appling of Thomson, Fred Appling of Hull; grandchildren: Evan Appling of Cornelia and Travis Echols of Hartewll.
Visitation will be held Friday, August 3, 2007 from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Madison Oglethorpe Animal Shelter, P. O. Box 453, Danielsville, GA 30633.
Lord & Stephens, EAST is in charge of arrangements.
