High Shoals - Joan Tarpley Queen, 79, of High Shoals, Georgia died March 6, 2006 in the comfort of her own home, after an extended illness.
Born in Clarke County May 28, 1926, Mrs. Queen was the daughter of the late Joel Cleveland and Gussie Evans Tarpley. She lived most of her life in Clarke and Oconee counties. She was employed by Southern Bell for eight years before beginning a family. She was a member of High Shoals Christian Church.
Mrs. Queen is preceded in death by three brothers; Russell, Pete and Hugh Tarpley. Mrs. Queen is survived by her husband of 63 years; celebrated March 3, 2006, Joseph M. Queen, Jr., three children; Deborah Q. and Eddy Tiller of High Shoals, Joe Queen, III of Athens and Clark and Pamela Queen of Bogart; brothers and sisters include Al and Louise Tarpley of Nashville, TN., Louise T. Malcom, Betty and Edward Kenimer of Watkinsville, Tillie Tarpley of Columbia SC, four grandchildren; Jenny Q. and Jason Rainey, Cory Tiller, Joseph Queen IV, and Alexander Queen. Mrs. Queenís extended family includes grandchildren MacKenzie and Marci Anthony and caregivers Carolyn and Anna Williams.
Funeral Services were held at Lord & Stephens West Chapel, Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at 3PM. Nephews of the Queen and Tarpley families served as pallbearers. Burial was in the Queen Cemetery, Good Hope, GA.
