Joan Marie Aquino, 84, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2020, in Athens, Georgia. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, on September 2, 1935, to Pearl (Jozwiak) Mackiewicz and Casimier Mackiewicz. She married Richard M. Aquino on June 28, 1952, who preceded her in death on January 27, 2001.
In addition to her role as loving wife and mother of four, Joan also had a successful retail sales career spanning well over two decades with Evans in Schaumburg, Illinois. She will be remembered for the special and helpful ways she touched the lives of those within her family and work circles. She never knew a stranger but rather was quick to engage others in conversation and make them feel at ease. She was of the Catholic faith.
Joan is survived by her sister, Lorraine (Don) Skinner, sons Rick (Nancy) Aquino, Jeff (Tammy Brooks) Aquino, and grandchildren, J.J. Aquino, Jesse Aquino, Michelle Kieca, Bill Kieca, Nicole (Jonathan) Davis, Ryan (Heather) Aquino, Kelley (Jon) Woodsmall, Samantha Mohring, Jessica Mohring. She was blessed with 18 great-grandchildren: Abby, Brian, Jacob, Kathryn, Clare, Caleb, Luke, Abby Kate, Jeremiah, Cheyenne, Elliot, Kayla, Kaden, Peyton, Taylor, Easton, Emma and Ellie. She was preceded in death by husband, Richard, and daughters, Dawn Mohring and Susan Routt.
A private graveside service for family will be held at St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Cemetery in Palatine, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Mary’s Hospice House in Watkinsville, GA.
