Jimmy Edward Tate, 77, of Athens, died November 17, 2023.
Born in Clarke County, GA, he was a son of the late Herman Edward and Frances O’Nell Tate and was preceded in death by a son, Edward Matthew Tate. A lifelong Athens resident, Jimmy was raised attending Central Baptist Church. He was an avid fisherman. Jimmy played baseball with the Athens-Clarke County League and softball with the Men’s League. He loved vehicles in general, especially his trucks and loved to vacation in Myrtle Beach. Jimmy was a retired supervisor with Athens-Clarke County Water Filtration Plant with 33 years of service.
Survivors include his son and daughter in law, Michael and Jennifer Tate of Nicholson; sister, Sandra Tate Archer (Jimmy) of Athens; brother, Tommy Craig Tate of Bogart; grandchildren, Michael Paul Tate, Jr., Miles Isiah Tate and Malachi Tate; nieces and nephews, Angie Archer Collins (Steve), April Archer Huff (Keith), Kelsey Tate Tyner (T.J.), and Chloe Tate Sellars (Zach); great nieces and nephews, Samantha Collins, Cameron Brown, Carly Huff, Chambree Tyner, Austin Tyner, Mac Tyner, Billie Jo Tyner and Ella Sellars.
The family will receive friends at Lord and Stephens, EAST, Tuesday, November 21, 2023 beginning at 11:00 AM. Services will follow in the chapel at 12:30 PM with Pastor Eric Stevens and Pastor James Gary officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Danny Joe Hoopaugh, Tommy Tate, Nick Stephens, Jimmy Archer, Cameron Brown and Michael Tate.
The family extends a heartfelt thank you to Kathy Tate for her special care during his final days.
