Jimmy Fred Stokes, Sr., 85, of Hull, Georgia passed away peacefully on November 20, 2020 surrounded by his family. He was one of eight children born to Stanton and Ola Stokes in Chatsworth, Georgia. He was a veteran of the United States Army and later retired from the tire business. Since retirement didn’t suit his active nature and need for purpose, he worked part time at Lord and Stephens and shared his love and compassion for others. An engaging story teller, he never met a stranger and was much loved by his community. As a Sunday school teacher, Jimmy’s passion was to teach and share the Gospel. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Jimmy loved SEC football, working in his yard, politics and current events. His grandchildren were the light of his world.
He was a devoted husband of 60 years and a loving father and grandfather. Survivors include his wife Helen Hendricks Stokes; sister Linda Stokes of Michigan; son Jimmy F (Laurie) Stokes, Jr. of Columbus, Georgia; daughter Nancy Stokes (Marcus) Schick of Cumming, Georgia; Grandchildren include Will Stokes, Sr., Jessica Stokes (Sebastian) Granados, Molly Stokes, Lisa Schick (Morgan) Barnhardt, Trent Schick, and Tyler McGill; great-grandchildren include Will Stokes, Jr. and Vasco Granados.
In an abundance of caution for the safety of others due to COVID-19, a graveside service will be held on Friday, November 27, 2020 for immediate family only at Union Baptist Church, Hull, Georgia with Rev. Ray Finger officiating. He was an active member of The Gideons International. So in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made "In memory of Jimmy F. Stokes, Sr." to The Gideons International.
