Jimmy Alton Payne

June 20, 1951 — January 17, 2015

Jimmy Alton Payne, 63, husband of Debbie Payne, died Saturday, January 17, 2015.A native of Athens, he was the son of the late Charles Milton Payne and Dorothy House Payne and brother to the late Jeff Payne. Jimmy retired from Complete Lift Service and had been a Heavy Equipment Mechanic for 40 years. He was a member of Bogart Baptist Church where he was very involved in the Bogart Bible Club and with the youth of the church. Jimmy loved showing his 1973 Dodge Dart Sport, attending car shows, and riding his motorcycle. As a dirt track racer he enjoyed racing at Winder-Barrow Speedway and the Athens Speedway. He was a Charter Member of the Athens HOG Chapter in 1988 and a national HOG life member. In addition, Jimmy was also a member of ABATE and the Christian Motorcyclists' Association. In addition to his wife, survivors include his children: Benjy Alton Payne of Monroe, Eric (Nicole) Scott of PA, Ryan (Natalie) Scott of NY, Jamie Abounader of Bogart, and David (Angel) Abounader of Athens; eight grandchildren and one great grandchild. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 2PM at Bogart Baptist Church with Rev. Ted Tedder and Rev. Allen Rogers officiating. Burial will follow at Barrow Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be Charlie Payne, Wesley Payne, Mike Tuggle, Freddy Patat, Mario Nevola and David Dunson. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 on Monday, January 19, 2015 at the funeral home.Flowers are appreciated or memorials may be made to the Bogart Baptist Church Youth Group in lieu of flowers.Lord & Stephens West is in charge of arrangements.
