Jimmy Q. Patton, 80, of Paoli, Georgia, passed away March 19, 2024, surrounded by family.
Jimmy was born to the late John and Nellie Parham Patton on October 19, 1943 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. A dedicated husband, father, and grandfather, he spent his entire adult life in the Paoli community that he loved. Before Parkinson’s Disease robbed his body of its physical abilities, he enjoyed spending his time fishing, farming, gardening, watching his favorite westerns, and amassing a collection of old and broken things that time would prove he rarely got around to fixing. To the delight of his family and friends, he greatly enjoyed sharing his culinary talents. His world-famous Boston Butt, homemade BBQ sauce, and homegrown tomatoes were always appreciated and, like Jimmy himself, will be greatly missed at future family gatherings. He cherished spending time with his loved ones, especially his four grandchildren.
After graduating from Madison County High School in 1962, Jimmy proudly served in the United States Army Reserves. He dedicated many years to the agricultural chemical industry, working at Dixie Feed and Seed, North Georgia Agriculture, and later retiring from Farmer’s Hardware. During this time, Jimmy also served his community as a member of the Madison County School Board for approximately 15 years. After his retirement, he helped his son-in-law manage Idlewilde Farm in Ila, Georgia. His vast agricultural knowledge and desire to always lend a helping hand will be sorely missed.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 55 years, Judy Wooten Patton, and their children: Jimmy Patton, Jr. (Alicia) of Colbert, Matthew Patton (Betsy) of Comer, Allyson Patton Davis (John) of Bogart, and Lindsey Patton Ouimet (Chase) of Winterville. He was a loving grandfather to Austin and Jacob Patton, and Maisie and Jack Davis. He also leaves behind his beloved sister, Dianne Patton Faulkner, of Athens. We would be remiss not to also mention his close relationships with his uncle and aunt, Glenn and Jeanette Parham of Tallahassee, FL, as well as his cousin, Mike Patton, of Comer.
A Celebration of Life will be held by the family in the near future to honor Jimmy’s memory. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Michael J. Fox foundation for Parkinson’s research at give.michaeljfox.org.
Lord and Stephens in Danielsville, Georgia is assisting the family with arrangements.
