Ila - Jimmy W. Mattox, 73, died Sunday, December 13, 2009 at his residence.
Born in Madison County, he was the son of the late Melvin and Gertrude Lord Mattox Stephenson. Jimmy was a retired deputy with Clarke County, as well as Oglethorpe County and retired as Sheriff of Madison County. He was the last living Member of Union Primitive Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Lord & Stephens Danielsville Chapel with Dr. Billy J. Owensby and Rev. Ben Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Ila Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Holden, Brian Drake, Chris Drake, Bo Dalton, Michael Drake, Tommy Lord, Chris Shipley and Zach Elrod. Honorary pallbearers will be the Clarke County and Madison County Sheriffs Departments.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Mattox; daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Dan Hinsley of Maysville, Teresa and Wes Dozier of Athens, Susan and Chris Robertson of Ila; grandchildren, Brent Hinsley, Lee Hinsley, Neal Hinsley, Jill Boyd, Katie Shipley, Ali Robertson, Sarah Robertson; and great-grandchildren, Christian Hinsley, AnnMarie Hinsley, Makalia Hinsley, Madalyn Hinsley, Mattox Hinsley, Isabelle Hinsley, Sawyer Boyd and Olivia Boyd.
The family will receive friends tonight, Tuesday, December 15, 2009 from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Flowers are optional or memorials may be made to the Heritage Foundation for the Restoration of Union Primitive Baptist Church.
