James "Jimmy" Clovis Collinsworth, 75, of Athens, died November 11, 2016.
A native of Athens, he was the son of the late Orin Clovis and Bertha Lee Smith Collinsworth. He was also preceded in death by his brother Donald Lee Collinsworth and sister Sandra Ann Collinsworth. Jimmy was a longtime law enforcement officer, having served with the Athens Clarke County Police Department and retiring from the Oconee County Sheriff's Office. He was a member of the Police Officers Association, Past President of the Northeast Georgia Police Benevolent Association, was Georgia Police Officer of the Year and a member of Hull Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, JoAnn Crowley Collinsworth; children, Mark (Jamie) Collinsworth of Danielsville, Tracy (Tim) Kite of Lizella and Brad (Bettyann) Collinsworth of Monroe; grandchildren, Bonnie Kate, Amelia Jo, Jaylee, Alex and Taylor.
Services will be Monday, November 14, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Henry Norman, Dennis Hale, Scott Crawford, Scott Burgess, Robby McCurley, Matt England, Ned Hughes and Clint Cochran.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to Hull Baptist Church Building or Youth Fund or to Athens Christian School Building Fund.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Bridgeway Hospice and caregiver, Janice Cox, and to Mary Frances and Jimmy Burgess for their dedication, loving care and attention.
