Jimmie Ree Wardlaw, age 103 of Sanford Community, Madison County passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2012.
Jimmie Ree Wardlaw was born October 5, 1908. She was the last surviving of eleven children of James Anthony Stone and Annie Epps Stone of Sanford Community. Her life was dedicated to her family, her church, and her community.
She was predeceased by her husband, L.C. Wardlaw, Jr. and her brothers and sisters, Nannie Mae Thornton, Ruth Dillard, Gertrude Crawford, Zora Hopkins, Darlene Barnett, Bonnie Lee Edwards, Vera Fouche, John Richard Stone, Walter North Stone, and A. L. Stone, Sr.
Survivors include her sister-in-law Mary M. Stone. The family recognizes the special care given by Cobb Health Care, Comer, GA.
As a young lady she road the train to Atlanta, stayed with family and worked at H.S. Kress downtown as a clerk. She attended the first performance at the Fox Theater. In later years she lived in Andrews, South Carolina and owned Jimmie Ree's dress shop until 1974 when she moved back to Sanford Community and built her home.
Funeral services will be 11 AM, Saturday, April 7, 2012 at Gordon's Chapel United Methodist Church, Nowhere Road, Sanford Community with the Rev. Bill Jackson conducting the service. Visitation will be Friday, April 6, 2012 from 6-8 PM at Lord & Stephens, Danielsville.
Memorials may be made to the Gordon's Chapel Perpetual Care Cemetery Trust, 991 Smith Road, Hull, GA 30646. Lord and Stephens Danielsville is in charge of arrangements.(
