Jewell Moon Hammond, 80, of Watkinsville, died March 19, 2021. Born in Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Guy Raymond Moon, Sr. and Minnie Vickery Moon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Bishop Douglas C. Hammond on January 30, 2021. She was also preceded in death by her son, David Hammond in 2002, sister, Betty Sue Quarles, and brothers Guy Raymond Moon, Jr. and Jerry Lee Moon.
Mrs. Hammond worked for a number of years at Thomas Textile and worked alongside and supported her husband during the establishment of Watkinsville Church of The Lord Jesus Christ, now New Life Apostolic Church. She will be remembered for her never-ending love for her husband and family.
Survivors include her son and daughter in law, Rev. Tim Hammond and his wife Dorcas; two daughters in law, Gail Leggett and Leesa Hammond; sister, Alma and Richard Bolding; sister-in- law, Jo Moon; grandchildren, Dave (Sandy) Hammond, Kevin (Rebekah) Hammond, Amy Brownlee, Tasha (Ryan) Mathis, Dusty (Beth) Hammond, Kyle Hammond, Zach (Lauren) Hammond and Autumn (Elijah) Mayo; 14 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Lord and Stephens, WEST, Watkinsville, Sunday, March 21, 2021 from 5:00 until 7:00 PM. Private family services will be held on Monday, March 22, 2021 at 2:00 PM followed by burial at Oconee Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Nehemiah Project for the building of the new sanctuary at New Life Apostolic Church.
