Reverend Jessie Andrew Martin, 74, passed from this life to his eternal home with the Lord Wednesday evening, July 29, 2015.
Jess was born August 31, 1940, to his late parents, Clyde J. Martin and Mary Dianda Rosas in San Antonio, TX. He was a licensed light aircraft pilot. Also, he was a National Guard and Regular Army Veteran, having served in Vietnam and Germany. He loved to fish, garden, cook, and take care of the "girls", his backyard family of chickens. Jess was a graduate of Pastoral Theology at Baptist Bible College and Seminary of Springfield, MO in May 1974, and served as pastor of Westfield Baptist Church in Macon, GA for three years. During college, Jess served as a bus minister while a member at High Street Baptist Church. He went on to become successful as a certified and licensed estate conservation and finance planner, an entrepreneur, certified pastoral additions counselor, and licensed DUI instructor from the Prevention Research Institute.
Jess is preceded in death by his youngest son, Jeremy Wade Martin, who, at the age of 19, was struck and killed by a drunk driver on Highway 29. After Jeremy's death, Jess established Beyond the Edge Ministry, a Christ centered addictions recovery and counseling services ministry in Madison County; also a sister Sylvia Ludwick of Washington. Survivors include his wife, Anna David Martin, of Danielsville; sons, David Andrew Martin and wife Sandra, Aaron Samuel Martin and wife Joanna. Grandchildren are Nathaniel Logan Martin, Katherine Lin Martin, William Smith, and Sarah Smith Croya; a great granddaughter, Harper Croya. Brothers and sisters include Robert Martin of Orlando, FL, Jim Martin of Kerrville, TX, Celia Lindberg of Panama City, FL, Raymond, Richard and Larry Rosas of San Jose, CA, and Gloria Prieto of Chandler, AZ; as well as numerous nieces and nephews coast to coast.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Sunday, August 2, 2015 at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home in Danielsville. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday, August 3, 2015 at Friendship Baptist Church in Danielsville, with the Rev. Dayton Logan and Rev. Jeff Wells officiating. Interment will be at the Martin Family Garden at Friendship Baptist Church.
