Jerry L. Tuttle, 83, son of the late Charles Ernest Tuttle, Sr., and Hettie (Helen) Estelle Chapman Tuttle, died on March 2, 2024 at Piedmont Athens Regional following a sudden illness.
Jerry was born in 1940 in Effingham County, GA, but grew up in Garden City, GA. He graduated with a degree in history from the University of Georgia and received his master's and educational specialist degrees from Georgia Southern University. He served many years as a teacher and administrator in Georgia schools.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother and sister-in-law, Charles Ernest Tuttle, Jr., and Mary Kincey Tuttle; his sister-in-law, Barbara Jerald Tuttle; and his brother, Mercer Lamar Tuttle. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Beverly Shockley Tuttle; two children, Jeremy Paul Tuttle (wife Emmie) of Tucker, GA and Elizabeth Tuttle Johnson (husband Adam) of Jackson, WY; two granddaughters, Penelope Ann Tuttle and Rosalie Kay Tuttle; sister, Harriet Tuttle Martin of Savannah, GA; and two brothers, Francis Chapman (Nocoleta) Tuttle, Sr. of Concord, NC and Dan Crawford Tuttle of Dunwoody, GA. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Pat Tuttle of Goose Creek, SC; Chuck (Sheryl) Tuttle and Ken (Susan) Tuttle of Charleston, SC; Chip (Rose) Tuttle of Concord, NC; Janet (Brad) Luckhaupt of Lakeland, FL; Hugh Martin of Fountain, CO; David (Peggy) Martin of Steamboat Springs, CO; Carolyn Spitzer of Savannah, GA; Judy (Dino) Favara of Dunwoody, GA; Susan (Jim) White of Charlotte, NC; and Dan (Joni) Tuttle of Gainesville, GA; and many great nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at Lord & Stephens Funeral Home, East, Athens, GA at 11am on Saturday, March 9, 2024. Visitation will be held at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
