Jerry Allen Hobbs, 69 years-old, of St. Simons Island, GA previously of Albany, GA and Athens, GA passed away peacefully, Tuesday, August 23, 2016 after several years of multiple medical problems. He was born in Albany, GA on November 24, 1946 to the late J. B. and Faye Hobbs. Jerry graduated from Albany High School in 1964 and obtained a BBA from The University of Georgia. He retired from Georgia Power Company in 2002. He moved to St. Simons Island in 2012.
He will be remembered by many relatives and friends who knew him to be a wonderful Dad and father-in-law, an awesome brother, a fun-loving, fabulous uncle, and a great brother-in-law. His greatest love other than family and friends was his love of beach music. He loved to Shag dance and was a member of The Golden Isles Shag Club. Jerry graduated from The University of Georgia and was a diehard Georgia Bulldog fan. He knew every word of every episode of The Andy Griffith Show. It was such a pleasure to sit and talk with Jerry about music trivia. He was such a "soul man."
Jerry was preceded in death by his precious little son Jacob Jerald Hobbs (JJ). He is survived by his daughter, Mary Priscilla Dowling (Prissy), and her husband, Marcus of Alpharetta GA. He also has 3 sisters, Priscilla Hobbs Fraser (Curtis) of St. Simons Island, GA, Paula Hobbs Ford (Jerry) of Albany, GA, and Lisa Tobin Burke (Dean) of Albany, GA. He has 3 nephews, 3 nieces, 4 great-nephews, 4 great-nieces, and 1 great-great nephew.
He will be buried alongside his precious son, JJ and JJ's mother, Alice. The graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 11:00 am at Athens Memory Gardens, 5195 Lexington Road, Athens, GA. A luncheon will take place following the ceremony. Location will be announced at the graveside. Be prepared to share your favorite memories of Jerry.
