Watkinsville - Jerry D. Hardigree, 89, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2006 at 4:00 AM at his home on Jerusalem Road, Watkinsville, GA from an extended illness of spinal stenosis, due to which he could not stand or walk for the last eight years of his life.
Mr. Hardigree was born in Oconee County, Georgia, June 14, 1917, son of the late Reginald E. and Pattie Durham Hardigree. He was a member of Antioch Christian Church, where he was a deacon emeritus. He retired in 1983 from Southern Piedmont Research Center in Watkinsville, where he worked as the mechanic for twenty-five years. Jerry was an avid Braves baseball and Georgia football fan and traveled out of town to many football games. He last project was making frames for his wife, Hazel's oil paintings.
Survivors include his wife of seventy years and ten months, Hazel Lavender Hardigree; a daughter and son-in-law, June and Allen E. Dooley; a number of nieces and nephews. Mr. Hardigree was preceded in death by an infant son, Gerald Dudley Hardigree, a brother, Reginald Samuel Hardigree, and a sister, Helen Hardigree Craig.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Sunday, November 5, 2006 at 2:00 PM at Antioch Christian Church, Antioch Church Road, Watkinsville, with the Reverends Jeffery Wilkes and Durrell Rice officiating. A poem will be read by Rev. Bill Hayes from St. Mary's Hospice. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family will be at their home on Jerusalem Road.
