Jerry Lanier Butler

September 18, 1940 — May 13, 2015

Jerry Lanier Butler, 74, died May 13, 2015.
A native of Ocilla, GA, he was a son of the late Murvin Lanier and Mae Griffin Butler. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Kay Bufford Butler and his brother, George Frederick Butler.
Mr. Butler was a graduate of Sylvester High School, Reinhardt College and the University of Georgia. He worked for Crystal Farms Poultry for many years and retired after twenty years from the University of Georgia as Manager of the Poultry Science Farm. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, where he was active in the Men's Club.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 16, 2015 at 4:00 PM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens, WEST, with Rev. Richard Moeller officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in law, Janet and Doug Cassiday of Maysville and Andrea and David Downs of Watkinsville; brother, Don Butler of Dawsonville; sister, Priscilla Ruth of Savannah; brother-in-law, Harry Bufford of Greensboro; sister-in-law, Liz Berg of Columbia, SC; six grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chapelwood UMC Missions or the American Heart Association.
Lord and Stephens, WEST, is in charge of arrangements.
