Jeffrey Anthony Kotzan

February 5, 1942 — September 7, 2021

Sky Valley

Dr. Jeffrey Anthony Kotzan passed away at his home in Sky Valley, Georgia, with his family and loved ones at his side. Jeff and his brother Bruce, and their parents Bertha and Charles Kotzan grew up in northeast Indiana, including Gary and East Chicago.

Jeff obtained a PhD in Pharmacy at Purdue University, where he met his wife, Lois, who was also in the Pharmacy program. Jeff taught as a professor of pharmacy at the University of Georgia from 1969 - 2005. In that time he served on many committees and advisory capacities. He was involved in some of the original academic programming and development that led us from large magnetic data tapes to modern day statistical applications. Upon retiring, Jeff and Lois decamped and headed to the north Georgia mountains, where he and Lois were able to host their children and grandchildren for many visits throughout the years.

Jeff was a gifted musician and violinist. He played in the Athens symphony while teaching, and in retirement he and Lois joined a parish Choir. Jeff worked on the Atchinson Topeka Santa Fe Super Chief while in college and carried an enduring love of trains throughout his life. More than anything, Jeff loved his family and his wife, with a 53 year marriage and 5 grandchildren his most enduring legacy. Jeff loved to laugh, always had a twinkle in his eye, and never took himself too seriously. He was a gentle, loving man who was slow to anger and quick to forgive. He was patient and kind. He will be missed.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Lois, his brother Bruce (Tina), his children, Mike (Emily) and Cathryn (Chris), and 5 grandchildren, Stephen, Christopher, Henry, Jules, and Mae. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
