Jeanne Mansell Strong, 68, wife of Charles F. Strong, Jr., died Saturday, May 3, 2014.
Jeanne was a loving wife, mother and sister and was also an accomplished painter and artist. Her creativity and passion for historic preservation led her to be vital in the restoration and design of the Church-Waddel-Brumby House, now the Athens Welcome Center and she served as a Past President of the Athens Clarke Heritage Foundation . She also researched and authored a book, available through the Oconee County Library, on the history of Oconee County.
Jeanne taught Interior Design at UGA forseveral years, and was an OCAF Board Member. She was the owner/co-owner of two different businesses in Watkinsville - Art Masters and Accents Unlimited - and worked as the Mainstreet Manager in Monroe, GA..
A native of Boston, Mass., she was the daughter of the late William A. Mansell and Rae J. Mansell. Jeanne graduated from Natick High School, received her undergraduate degree from Framingham State University, and her masters in Historic Preservation and certification in Interior Design from the University of Georgia.
In addition to her husband, survivors include a daughter and her fiance, Alexis Rae Strong and Jay Bauer of Washington, DC; sisters: Donna Phoenix of Manchester, CT, Patricia Rae Kelly of Escondido, CA, Lee Ann Truesdell Dropkin of Port Washington, NY.
A memorial service is to be planed for a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
