Athens - Mrs. Jeanne Robichaux Pippin, 96, of Morningside Assisted Living, Athens, GA, went to be with our Lord on July 21, 2005.
She was born in Ponchatoula, LA, August 25, 1908, to Odon Lee and Virginia Donaldson Robichaux and was the oldest of six brothers and sisters. She received her RN from Mercy Hospital in New Orleans and worked in New Orleans as a nurse anesthetist until 1945. She lived in Birmingham, AL, for many years and nursed at the University of Alabama Hospital, at Spain Rehabilitation Center and at the Eye Foundation Hospital, retiring in 1973. She was preceded in death by her husband James Wyatt Pippin of Ozark and Birmingham, AL.
She is survived by her sisters Winona Higginbotham of Slidell, LA., and Mae Delaune of Ponchatoula, LA, two daughters, Jeannine Wing and husband Tom of Athens, GA, and Hettie Johnson and her husband Bill of Hoover, AL; grandchildren Natalie and Wyatt Johnson of Birmingham and Auburn, AL, Jessica Wing Spivey and great-grandchildren Jordan and Taylor Spivey of Savannah, GA. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who were very special to her.
She was active in volunteer work with Our Lady of Sorrows Church and School, the Red Cross, Girl Scouts and YWCO, sharing her talents in the areas of oil and china painting, porcelain and ceramics, sewing, needlework, gardening and cooking. She was a long-time parishioner at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Birmingham and was most recently a parishioner of The UGA Catholic Center.
Services will be held Monday July 25, and are being handled by Harry McKneely and Son Funeral Home in Ponchatoula. Memorials may be made in the form of donations to Hammond Strawberry Fields, 116 W. Thomas St. Hammond, LA 70401.
