Ira Jean Treadwell Poole, 90, of Bogart, passed away on Monday, January 24, 2022.

Born in Walton County, GA to the late Ira and Ruth Treadwell, Jean married William Lumpkin Poole, a career Navy submariner who served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After Billy was killed in action, Jean raised their son, Tim, as a single mother. She retired from the University of Georgia and was an active member of Hebron Christian Church until her final illness. Jean was a soft-spoken woman who loved birdwatching, opera, and every year attended the Gospel Music Awards. She was also an avid and knowledgeable football fan who rooted for her beloved Bulldawgs.

Along with her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by 8 siblings.

Jean is survived by her son, Tim (Carolyn) Poole; two grandchildren: Jennifer (Brett) Petersen and Josh Poole; and sister Hazel Roach.

A graveside service will be held Thursday, January 27 at Farmington Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Anthony Watts officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Jean’s memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or at stjude.org .
