Jean Thomas (Tommy) Myers, 62, a Danielsville resident for the past 37 years, died peacefully Saturday the 6th of December at Hampton House from spinocerebellar ataxia.
Born in Macon, Georgia on the 3rd of September, 1952, he was the son of the late Jean T. Myers and the late Hazel C. Myers of Mason and Gray, a 1970 graduate of Jones County High School in Gray, and he served honorably in the Georgia National Guard until 1976. He was a professional and dedicated driver with Averitt Express and later retired from Estes Trucking Company. He was a member and a deacon of the Colbert Baptist Church, the Pairs and Spares Sunday School Class and was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves and of NASCAR. He loved and devoted himself to his family and friends. He stood out among them as a man who was highly respected, deeply loved and straightforward.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Terri Hall Myers of Danielsville; a son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Wendy Myers, of Colbert; a daughter and son-in-law, Ashley and Jason Mercer of Watkinsville; four grandchildren, Kara Grace Myers of Colbert, Avery Mercer, Austin Mercer, and Kelsey Mercer, all of Watkinsville; a sister and brother-in-law, Margie and Chuck Grace of Jeffersonville; a brother, Jimmy Myers of Houston, TX; his mother-in-law, Bonnie Hall-Standard of Danielsville; a brother-in-law, Tommy (Pam) Hall of Danielsville; three nephews and three nieces. He was preceded in death by a sister, Martha Ann Makohon.
The family would like to thank the staff of Hampton House for their compassionate and thoughtful care during his years of residency and to thank the staff of Compassionate Care (Agape) Hospice for their wisdom and support at a critical time.
Friends are cordially invited for a visitation with the family from five o'clock until seven o'clock Tuesday, the 9th of December at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home in Danielsville. The funeral service is to be conducted at one o'clock in the afternoon on Wednesday, December 10th in the Sanctuary of Colbert First Baptist Church, 65 S. Fifth Street, where Rev. Brad Wilson and Rev. David Shivar will co-officiate. Private interment will follow in Danielsville Memorial Gardens near his grandson, Rhett Thomas Myers. The family requests friends to dress casual.
Active pallbearers will be Dwayne Patton, Randy Ray, Tommy Hall, Micah Seehorn, Steve Bates, Russ Moon, Rick Standard, and Marvin Smith.
In lieu of customary remembrances, the family suggests with gratitude that memorials be directed to the National Ataxia Foundation, 2600 Fernbrook Lane, Suite 119, Minneapolis, MN 55447.
