Jean M. Hopkins, 86, of Athens, Ga, passed away on September 22, 2023. She was born on April 13, 1937 in Athens Ga, to the late Esque Alewine and Hester Alewine (Paul) Rechterman. Jean was the beloved wife of the late George Eugene Hopkins and loving mother of Ricky and Danny (Cindy) Hopkins.
Jean will be remembered for her excellent southern cooking, which she used to express her love for her family. She delighted in preparing her family's favorite dishes during holidays and special occasions. Her culinary skills brought joy and warmth to countless gatherings.
In addition to her sons, Jean is survived by her grandchildren Ashley (Josh) Stough, Peyton (Emily) Hopkins, and Rusty Estes, as well as her great-grandchildren Perri Stough, Ames Stough, Anderson Estes, and Dax Estes. She is also survived by her nephew Jody (Marisa) Reynolds and great-nieces Kristina (Jason) Simonovich and Madison Reynolds.
Jean was the proud owner of Hopkins Skating Rink, where she created cherished memories for the community. Her dedication and passion for providing a safe and enjoyable environment for skaters will be remembered by all who frequented the rink.
Jean was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church, where she found solace and community. She drew strength from her religious beliefs and found comfort in worship.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects at the funeral home. The visitation will be held at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, EAST in Athens, Ga. on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 from 1:30 until 3:00 PM with the funeral service immediately following in the Chapel. Interment will be in Athens Memory Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Rusty Estes, Peyton Hopkins, Josh Stough, Scott Sailors, Anderson Estes and Grady Wilmot.
She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. May her soul rest in eternal peace.
