Jean Guest Crowther, 72, died Tuesday, October 5, 2010 at Athens Heritage Nursing Home after battling a long illness.
A native of Athens, Ms. Crowther was a daughter of the late Melvin Valco Guest, Sr. and Helen Leona Ferguson Guest. Jean dedicated her life to caring for others as a nurse at Athens General Hospital, St. Mary's Hospital and also worked as a private duty nurse. Jean enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and made friends with everyone she met.
Funeral services will be Sunday, October 10, 2010 at 3:00 PM at Beech Haven Baptist Church with Dr. Stewart B. Simms, Jr officiating. Interment will follow in Winterville Cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Kim and Stuart McGarity, Jr. of Athens, Terry and Janice Crowther of Colbert, Christy and Wendell Smith of Watkinsville, Athena and Dean Paul of Bogart, and Lee "Benjy" Minish of Athens; siblings, M. V. Guest, Jr. of Winterville, Billy J. Guest of Eatonton, Larry and On Guest of Athens, Jackson "Jay" and Sara Guest of Watkinsville, Sherry and Maurice Ruff of Elberton and Vickey and Martin Gregory of Watkinsville, as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Beech Haven Baptist Church, 2390 West Broad St., Athens, GA 30606, the Epilepsy Foundation at www.epilepsyfoundation.org/howtohelp; or the American Liver Foundation at www.liverfoundation.org/howtohelp/donate.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:30 until 8:30 PM at the funeral home.
Lord and Stephens, WEST, is in charge of arrangements.
